This is one of my favorite hymns and it came to mind this morning, so I thought I would share. šŸ™‚Image

And Can It Be?
by Charles Wesley

And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Saviour’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God shouldst die for me?

He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace!
Emptied Himself of all by love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race!
“Tis mercy all, immense and fee,
For, O, my God, it found out me.

Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night.
Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray:
I woke–the dungeon flamed with light!
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread:
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine.
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, thru Christ my own.

…God shines His light brighter.

That was so true this morning!Ā

My 3 kids wanted to go to the beach so badly this week. This was the only day I had our car,Ā andĀ I hadĀ promised them when I had the car we would go to the beach. However, when we woke up it was 71 degrees and cloudy – very cloudy. But, as soon as 9 o’clock came, we grabbed all our gear and headed out the door.

Before we left the driveway, one of my boys prayed that the rain would hold off until we had time to swim. Then, praying in my heart, I pulled out.

The beach was empty when we arrived, but the water was wonderfully warm. All 3 kids ran in the water laughing and splashing. I think Peter even had time to chase off a flock of Canadian Geese. šŸ™‚

Around 1 hour later Nienna’s teeth started clattering and I knew it was time to get going. After I got her warmed up, I called the boys in. Then, and only then, I felt raindrops… We got mostly dried off and hopped in the car. As soon as we drove back inĀ our driveway the rain started falling harder and we heard thunder.

I was so glad for the swim, workout, time with my kids, and the chance to see God answer my kids’ prayer. I wouldn’t change this morning for anything! Thank you Lord.

My wonderful small group of ladies from church are working through Because He Loves Me by Elyse M. Fitzpatrick right now. Though we are only on chapter 2 it has already enriched my heart and reminded me of why I was created and who I am in Christ.

In the first chapter Elyse goes through the story of Christ and redemption by just listing verses for 10 pages. I was so encouraged and my heart was reminded again of God’s plan of redemption for me (and you).

I needed this reminder this week:

God has already done everything that needs to be done for us in Christ. Through Jesus, he has lovingly revealed himself to us: “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkenss,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ”(2 Cor. 4:6)

In all the busy-ness of my home and life the reminder that everything is in God’s control and for my good. I pray that when my house is so messy that I can’t think straight or my kids disobey me (again) and I lash out orĀ yell at them (again) that I am reminded of this. That I behold the glory of the Lord and it transforms me.

May it be so Lord: right now…

I was contemplating what light God has shown me recently (because I felt bad for not posting anything recently) and was struck with my lack of vision. šŸ™‚ I have light around me all the time in the form of a wonderful husband and 3 uniquely diverse children. All 4 of them are used by God to bring me light on a daily basis.

So starting with my daughter, Nienna, I want to share some of the ways God uses her to bring me his light.

Nienna loves to celebrate everything. She will count down days until her first ride on a school bus, until her birthday, until it’s time to go to church again, until she looses a tooth, until she can use the paint to make a picture. God has reminded me time and again that life is full of things to anticipate and look forward too all because of Nienna counting “how manyĀ sleeps until”.

Every morning Nienna comes downstairs, she is quiet and needs a cuddle. So every morning I get to hold her close and let her fully wake up in my arms.

Nienna loves people. She can be friends with a new kid in seconds. She loves most everyone she meets and makes sure they know she loves them.

God has given her strength of heart and body. She may look tiny, but inside is a strong and vibrant heart. She gives life and others her all; from tackling her brothers on a whim, to hugging me with all her might, to running to the kitchen to help makeĀ orĀ doĀ something, to hugging every friend from her class when she walks into school.

Thank you God for my strong, little princess. Thank you for blessing every day with her joy and intensity. Thank you for letting me have a chance to love her and be loved by her. May you grow her up to be a strong, godly woman who honors and enjoys you supremely.

God has given us…

power, love and self-control. Not fear!

We are memorizing this verse with Nienna because she has been having fear and anxiety with going to school. {She says she misses mommy, but we think she misses not having alone/play time} šŸ™‚

She made me smile last night when she was repeating the verse to Nate. This is my commentary on how it was said…

“God has not given us a spirit of fear; but (stand up fast and pumped up arms) of POWER, and (cross arms on chest and tilt head to side and say in a soft voice) love, and (turn around fast and tackle Daddy) self-control.”

I think we need to work on that last one…

Waiting, again…

I was talking with my hubby last night and this morning about waiting. We are waiting again; but this is a good place to be.

It seems we wait all the time; though it doesn’t always feel like that. I mean what are you waiting for? Money for bills, victory over sin, Jesus to return, a car to be fixed, someone to keep a promise, hope and light from God to your soul…the list is endless.

The light IĀ seeĀ in all this waiting comes from 2 places. First, the promise in Isaiah 40:31 – They who waitĀ for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and notĀ be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Secondly, the promise of Psalm 46:10 – Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

This reminds me to wait on God because he will keep his promise to strengthen me and this waiting will help me see who God really is. I just need to remember to not be curious about how exactly this waiting will turn out because that can make me discontent and anxious…:)

Our yard is a huge magnet for hundreds of creatures. Every summer we have more than the usual animals. This year is no exception. Here is a list of what I remember:
1 rabbit
1 stray cat
7 toads
tons of sparrows
a robin family (nesting in my Virginia Creeper)
Japanese bettles (what’s drawing all the sparrows)
2 cardinals
crickets and grasshoppers
European Starlings
1 Mourning Dove

I think this is God’s way of bringing joy to my children. They love animals and want to care for each and every one. Seeing so many different ones is growing their nurturing skills and love for God’s creatures. May it continue…
